A bus covers a distance of 30 km during first hour of its motion, 40 km during the second hour of its motion and 26 km during third hour of its motion. Calculate the acerage speed and velocity.

Expert Answer
average speed = distance / time
distance = ( 30 + 40 + 26 ) km = 96 km
time = 3 hr
average speed = 96 km/3 hr = 32 km/hr
average velocity = displacement / time
From the given information, the motion appears in straight line without changing any direction .
hence displacement and distance are equal
Hence average velocity = 32 km/hr
