On applying the conservation of momentum for gun bullet system we get
 
T o t a l space m o m e n t u m space b e f o r e space f i r i n g space b u l l e t equals space t o t a l space m o m e n t u m space a f t e r space f i r i n g space b u l l e t
0 equals m subscript B V subscript B plus m subscript G V subscript G
0 equals 10 over 1000 cross times 10 plus 4 V subscript straight G
V subscript straight G equals negative 0.025 m divided by s
Here negative sign indicates that the velocity of the gun is in opposite direction to the velocity of bullet.
