ICSE Class 10 Answered
A body of mass 1kg is thrown vertically upwards up with an intial speed of 5m/s.what is the magnitude and direction of force due to gravity acting on the body when is at its highest point (Icse 1997)

Expert Answer
When the body is at the highest point of its motion its velocity is zero but it is acted upon by the acceleration due to gravity(while it is at rest for a moment at the highest point). Thus, the force due to gravity acts on the stone in the downward direction.
Force = mg = 1 × 9.8 = 9.8 N
