A block C of mass m rests on a smooth table.Two blocks A and B each of mass m, are attached to the end of a light inextensible string passing over a smooth pulley fixed to C as shown .B rests on ac and A can move in a frictionless vertical shaft.Find the acceleration of C.

Answer:
Let the block-C move towards left with acceleration a1 and Block-B move towards right with acceleration a2 .
Then block-A moves downwards with acceleration (a1+a2). Free Body diagrams for all the blocks are shown in figure.

for the block-A, we have

N = m×a1   .................................(1)
m×g - T = m×(a1 + a2 )  ..............(2)

for the block-B, we have,   T = m×a2 ............... (3)
for the block-C, we have,   T  -N = m×a1 ....................(4)

By solving these four equations we get the four unknowns, a1 , a2 , T and N as follows

a1  = (1/5)g ,  a2 = (2/5)g , T = m× (2/5)g , N = m×(1/5)g
