CBSE Class 9 Answered
a ball is thrown upwards with an initial velocity of .5m/sec how much time it will take to reach the highest point
Asked by apurvastha | 23 Sep, 2018, 09:17: PM
Expert Answer
initial velocity of the ball (u) = 0.5 m/s
As the ball will continue to go up and stop at a certain point and start falling down due to gravity,
final velocity of the ball (v) = 0 m/s
a = g = acceleration due to gravity = 9.8 m/s2
'a' will be taken negative because, the ball is moving against the direction of the gravitational pull.
Using the equation of the motion
v = u + at
0 = 0.5 + (-9.8) (t)
t = - 0.5 / -9.8 = 0.051 s
Thus, the ball will reach it's highest point after
0.051 seconds, after which it starts to fall down.
