An alkyl group is obtained by removing one atom of hydrogen atom from an alkane molecule.
CnH2n+1 is the genral formula of the homologous series.
Functional group - alkyl
The chemical properties show gradient similarity.
Alkyl halides react with KOH to form alcohols.
CH3Br + KOH → CH3OH + KBr
C2H5Br + KOH → C2H5OH + KBr
