Use graph paper for this question (10 small div = 1 unit on both axes). Plot points P(3,2) and Q(-3,-2). From P and Q, draw perpendiculars PM and QN on the x-axis.
 
1) Name the image of P on reflection in the origin
 
2) Assign a special name to the figure PMQN and find its area.
 
3) Write the Co-ordinates of the point to which M is mapped on reflection in
 
(a) x-axis
 
(b) y-axis
 
(c) origin.

1) The image of P on reflection in the origin is Q.

2)The image PMQN is a parallelogram.
Area space of space parallelogram space equals 2 space area space of space the space triangle space PMN space equals 2 open parentheses 1 half cross times 6 cross times 2 close parentheses equals 12 space unit squared
3)The Co-ordinates of the point to which M is mapped on reflection in
 
(a) x-axis is M itself having co-ordinates (3,0).
 
(b) y-axis is N having co-ordinates (-3,0).
