Consider a volume element in the form of a cylinder of a fluid which is at equilibrium.
Let the height of the column be 'h', area of cross section be 'A', 'p1' be the pressure acting on the top face of the column and 'p2' at its bottom
Forces acting on the cylindrical column of fluid are:
1. F1 = p1A which is acting vertically downwards on the top face of the column.
2. F2 = p2A which is acting vertically upwards on the bottom face of the column.
3. W = mg which is acting vertically downward in the column of the fluid.
Since, the column of the fluid is at equilibrium the net force is zero.
F1 + W = F2
F1 + W - F2 = 0
On solving we get
(p2 - p1)A = mg = Ahg
or p2 - p1 = hg
or p2 - p1 = g
This is the modified Pascal's Law where the gravity in taken into account due to which the pressure changes with depth.
