Stopping potential of anode wrt cathode is negetive... Why?

Answer:
From cathode, electron or negatively charged particles are coming with some energy. Stopping potential means we should apply some potential to stop the electron and negatively charged particle before reaching anode. Hence if we apply negative voltage to the anode with respect to cathode, there will be retarding force due to the repulsion the electron experiences with the negative voltage. By applying proper negative voltage electron can be stopped before reaching anode.
