The cosmological constant existed in Einstein's general theory of relativity in the field equation given as

begin mathsize 14px style straight R subscript μν minus 1 half Rg subscript μν plus Λg subscript μν equals fraction numerator 8 πG over denominator straight c to the power of 4 end fraction straight T subscript μν
Where comma space straight R subscript μν space is space the space Ricci space curvature space tensor
straight R space is space the space scalar space curvature comma space straight g subscript μν space is space the space metric space tensor comma space straight T subscript μν space is space the space stress minus energy space tensor comma
straight c space is space the space speed space of space light space and space straight capital lambda space is space the space comological space constant end style

Now, proving this entire equation involves tensor calculus. Hence, it is not feasible to prove the entire theory here.

After the observations of the expanding Universe done by Edwin Hubble in 1929, Einstein had to abandon the existence of Λ as it suggested that Universe is static.
