CBSE Class 9 Answered
The horse-like Houyhnhnms are an absolute contrast to the human-like Yahoos. Gulliver is stunned to realise that the Yahoos chained to the walls by the Houyhnhnms actually depict qualities of humans. They are the embodiment of perfection in nature. They do not know how to lie. They also not know what good or bad comes out of lying. They are repulsed by the Yahoos and their disgusting ways. Gulliver is in awe of them. The Houyhnhnms teach Gulliver to pronounce words in their language and he eventually learns to speak their language impressing them. The master horse is first hesitant to make contact with Gulliver but his ability to mimic the Houyhnhnms’ language makes the master horse protect Gulliver. A room is made for Gulliver
Gulliver observed that the Houyhnhnms live in a simple, peaceful society governed by reason and truthfulness. They do not know what it means to lie. The Houyhnhnms create excellent poetry and have a sound knowledge of medicinal herbs. They accept death as a routine rather than experiencing sorrow over the dead. The qualities of the master horse have an extraordinary impact on Gulliver so much so that he is repulsive of the human race after having spent time with the Houyhnhnms.
