3 circles each of radius 1 cm, touch each other externally and they lie between two parallel lines. Find the minimum possible distance between the lines.

As shown in figure, distance between two parallel lines is divided into three segments, AB, BC and CD
BC = RS = begin mathsize 12px style square root of R Q squared minus R S squared end root space equals space square root of 3 space end root space c m end style
AD = AB+BC+CD = 1 + √3 + 1 = ( 2+√3 ) cm
