New Zealand lies in the Southern Hemisphere. On 22^nd December, the Southern Hemisphere is tilted towards the Sun. The Sun shines directly overhead the Tropic of Capricorn. The places in the Southern Hemisphere thus experience summer. Therefore, the 25^th of December may be one of the hottest days of the year in New Zealand.
