2 oxides of metal contain 50% and 40% of metal respectively. If formula of first oxide is MO then determine the formula of second oxide

Given:
 
Oxide I contains 50% of M.
 
Oxide II ci=ontains 40% of M.
 
The first oxide is given as MO.
 
Let the atomic mass of M be 'x'.
 
percent sign space of space straight O space equals space fraction numerator 16 over denominator straight x plus 16 end fraction cross times 100 As space oxide space straight I space contains space 50 percent sign space straight M comma straight O space equals space 50 percent sign therefore 50 over 100 space equals space fraction numerator 16 over denominator straight x plus 16 end fraction 0.5 space equals space fraction numerator 16 over denominator straight x plus 16 end fraction 0.5 straight x space plus space 8 equals space 16 0.5 straight x space equals space 8 space space space space space space space straight x equals space 16
 
So the atomic mass of metasl is 16
 
Now for IInd oxide,
 
M = 40% 
 
O = 60%
 
straight M space colon space straight O 40 over 16 space colon space 60 over 16 2. space colon space 3.75 almost equal to space 2 colon space 3 straight M subscript 2 straight O subscript 3
 
Formula of the second oxide is M2O3.
