1. Hypotonic solution is one in which ions outside the cell are less. (In a hypotonic solution, the solution contains a higher percentage of water than the cell. A hypotonic solution has less solute than the cell.)

2. Turgidity provides rigidity to soft plant tissues like parenchyma especially in young leaves and growing regions. Roots are able to penetrate through the soil since their tips are turgid. It is due to the turgor pressure that the roots of some plants are often seen growing out through the crevices in the walls.
