The hydrological cycle describes the continuous movement of water above, on, and below the surface of the Earth. The water on the Earth's surface--surface water--occurs as streams, lakes, and wetlands, as well as bays and oceans. Surface water also includes the solid forms of water-- snow and ice. The water below the surface of the Earth primarily is ground water, but it also includes soil water.

Water cycle includes the process of evaporation, condensation and precipitation. The heat of the sun evaporates the water resulting into the formation of water vapour. When the water vapour cools down, it condenses and form clouds.

It is from clouds that the water precipitates in the form of rainfall, hail, snow etc.  This process through which water keeps on changing its form and circulates between the oceans, atmosphere and land is known as the water cycle.

Though water may change its form, its quantity remains constant. Rivers, springs, ponds and glaciers are the source of fresh water.
