1.  A circular path is enclosed by two concentric circles.  If the outer circumference of the path is 88 cm and the uniform width of the path is 3.5 cm, find the area of the path.

Outer circumference = 88 cm
rightwards double arrow 2 πR equals 88 rightwards double arrow straight R equals fraction numerator 88 cross times 7 over denominator 2 cross times 22 end fraction equals 14 cm The space uniform space width space equals space 3.5 space cm rightwards double arrow Radius space of space inner space circle space equals space straight r space equals space straight R minus 3.5 space equals space 14 minus 3.5 space equals space 10.5 space cm therefore space Area space of space outer space circle space equals space πR squared equals 22 over 7 cross times 14 cross times 14 equals 616 space cm squared Also comma space area space of space inner space circle space equals space πr squared equals 22 over 7 cross times 10.5 cross times 10.5 equals 346.5 space cm squared therefore space Area space of space the space path space equals space Outer space area space minus space inner space area space equals space 269.5 space cm squared
