Vedic Math Trick: Squaring Any Number Ending in 9
This interesting Vedic Math trick will surely help you in reducing your time and effort in calculating square root of any number ending with number 9.
Now let us understand this method with the help of this example
Finding the square of 49
Step One: Start by adding 1 to the number.
It now becomes 50
This number now ends in zero and is easy to square this number
50^2 = (5*5*10*10) = 2500. This is the subtotal.
Step Two: Add 50 plus 49 (the number we squared plus the number we want to square)
50 + 49 = 99
Subtract 99 from 2500 to get an answer of 2401.
To easily do such subtractions, subtract 100 (1 more than 99) from 2500 to get 2400 and then add 1 to get the answer as 2401
So square of 49 is 2401
So Simple!!
Another Example of finding the square of bigger number ending in 9.
Finding the square of 169
169^2 =
169 + 1 = 170
170^2 = 28900
170 + 169 = 339
28900 - 339 = 28900 - 400 + 1
28900 - 339 = 28561
