The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be introducing Design Thinking, Physical Activity Trainer and Artificial Intelligence as new subjects for CBSE Class 11 from the 2020–21 academic session. This decision was taken to make the curriculum more inclusive and to move ahead along with the times. The aim of this decision was to ensure that students become more creative, innovative and physically fit.

The new world is slowly proceeding into an artificial intelligence-dependent environment and is leaning more towards technology. So, these changes will let students to get exposed to the global requirements from a young age.

Biswajit Saha, Director – Training and Skill Education, CBSE, said, "While thinking is a skill that all humans possess, the 21st century's requirement is of critical thinking and problem-solving. Design Thinking is a systematic process of thinking that opens up the horizons of creativity and enables even the most conditioned thinkers to bring about new and innovative solutions to the problems at hand."

While Saha is of the opinion that artificial intelligence is a simulation by machines of humans’ unlimited thinking capacity, he also mentioned that physical activity is a must if the body and mind are to be kept healthy.

Saha added, "With this view in mind, the course on Physical Activity Trainer has been prepared. It will not only help in developing the skill of a trainer but will also become a life skill as it will imbibe the idea of keeping fit for life."

CBSE has introduced these three new subjects which will help students in creative thinking, in coming up with innovative solutions and in staying physically fit, so that they can keep pace with new market trends.
