Friendship Day- Origin & History

The tradition of celebrating Friendship Day began in the year 1935 when the US Congress decided to dedicate a day in the honor of friends.

Why Friendship Day was needed in that era?

People of that era had seen the devastating effects of the First World War. They experienced increasing hostilities, mistrust and hatred between countries providing the perfect conditions for another imminent battle. Therefore there was a greater need for friendship amongst nations as well as amongst individuals. As a result Friendship Day took origin in that year 1935 by US congress.

Idea of Friendship Day - Spread across Nations

The success of this fantastic concept attracted several other countries to adopt the tradition of dedicating a day to the cause of friendship. This beautiful idea of celebrating a day in the honor of friends was wholeheartedly embraced by several other countries across the world.

Soon this day became International Friendship Day!
