Preparing Kids for the AI - Driven Future: Evolution and Important Strategies

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence.

I'm sure you've seen some movie or read a novel where robots can walk and talk like humans! That is what Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is all about. A.I. is a game-changing technology that allows machines to think and act like humans. A.I. can be found in your phone's virtual assistant, video games, and self-driving cars!

It is created by scientists and engineers who write special programs instructing machines on thinking and acting. These programs are referred to as algorithms. Algorithms are analogous to machine recipes. They provide step-by-step instructions to devices and computers.

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) can perform amazing feats that humans cannot. For example, it can quickly analyse information, outperform humans in games, write stories and beautiful artwork, create poems, control machines such as cars and drones, and recognise faces and voices. Although artificial intelligence is still in its early stages, it significantly impacts the world.

Tracing the evolution of A.I.

Artificial intelligence, or A.I. for short, is super cool!

Using this technology, computers can do things that normally need human intelligence. This includes things like understanding language, recognising patterns and making decisions. Artificial intelligence (A.I) has grown tremendously in recent years, leading to many business changes in several fields. Some people even say that A.I. is the next major technological revolution!

However, in previous eras, the preference for A.I. was not predictable. Even though artificial intelligence was established in 1956, there were many issues, such as barriers to expansion; machines could execute orders but not store them. Furthermore, until 1974, financing was a major hindrance. However, computers became widely available by 1974; they were much faster, less expensive, and could store data.

And as we know, A.I. nowadays is capable of incredible feats. It can, for example, help doctors diagnose diseases by analysing medical images, used in self-driving cars that can take you wherever you want, and even beat humans at games like ‘chess’ and ‘Go’. How cool is that? Scientists are working hard to improve A.I., and who knows what amazing things it will be able to do in the future! Maybe one day we'll have robot friends or go on adventures with A.I. powered spaceships!

The rise of A.I. in India: How India is becoming a leader in A.I. technology.

India is quickly becoming a leader in A.I. technology. The Indian government has launched several initiatives to promote the development and use of A.I. in the country. One such initiative is the National A.I. Portal of India, and this portal serves as a central knowledge hub on artificial intelligence and related fields such as machine learning, computer vision, and deep learning for aspiring entrepreneurs, students, and professionals.

The Indian government is using A.I in many ways, including biometric identification, facial recognition, criminal investigation, crowd and traffic management, and digital agriculture.

These are some revolutionary and innovative ideas on which many private and government bodies are working.

  1. Agriculture: The Indian government has ambitious plans to help farmers earn more money, many of which involve the use of Artificial Intelligence (A.I). A.I., for example, will provide farmers with accurate crop, weather, and insect information. It aids in making better decisions, growing crops, and earning more money! Farmers can access valuable farming tips and advanced techniques through apps such as Kisan Suvidha and My Ciphet. Let us embrace artificial intelligence and join the farming revolution!
  2. Healthcare: Approximately 4.7 million people in India cannot see, with cataract accounting for 66% of the cases. This is a major issue, particularly in rural areas and low-income city neighbourhoods with insufficient trained doctors and resources to assist people. However, there is now an app called ePaarwai that can help! The Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency created it, and all you have to do is take a picture of your eye with the app. It can detect cataracts and other types of vision problems. And anyone can use it to help people see better.

Another application of artificial intelligence is the detection of Covid-19. As COVID-19 spreads to rural India, it becomes more difficult for people to obtain CT scans and consult with radiologists. But now there’s a solution called ATMAN A.I.  that can help! It’s an A.I. -based app developed by CAIR, DRDO that uses chest X-rays to detect COVID-19 in people’s lungs. Chest X-rays are cheaper than CT scans, so this app makes testing easier. ATMAN A.I. can classify chest X-ray images into Normal, Covid-19 and Pneumonia classes using only a few hundred sample images. And it works fast! Unlike an RT-PCR test which takes many hours, ATMAN A.I. can detect COVID-19 in seconds. This means doctors can catch the disease early before patients show any symptoms.
  3. Cyber Crime: In today’s digital age, it’s easy for fake news to spread quickly. One type of fake news that’s becoming more common is deep fakes. These videos use A.I. to make it look like real people are doing and saying things they never did. It was hard for regular people to tell whether a video was a deep fake. But now there’s a solution called FakeBuster. It’s a platform where you can upload a photo or video, and it will tell you if it’s fake or not. FakeBuster has an accuracy of 90 percent.

To summarise, India is making significant advances in A.I. technology. The government is actively promoting the development and use of A.I. through various initiatives and programs, and we will see many such revolutionary AI-based applications soon. As a result of these efforts, problems are being resolved, and people's lives are being improved in India.

Upcoming A.I revolution: How kids can be prepared.

Have you ever considered what the world will be like when you're older? With the rapid advancements in A.I.-related technology, predicting the future world is difficult. However, we must prepare for it. Recognising this need, the Indian government has proposed a new education policy, NEP 2020, to revolutionise how and what we learn in schools.

The emphasis will shift to critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and emotional intelligence as essential skills. This transition is crucial because artificial intelligence is expected to reshape the labour landscape, rendering some jobs obsolete. As a result, developing skills that A.I. cannot easily replace is critical.

Although there are rapid changes A.I bring we can take steps to prepare ourselves adequately. By learning the necessary skills and preparing ourselves, we can be ready for future uncertainties. Those who want to work in artificial intelligence should be familiar with technical and non-technical domains. A diverse skill set will be required to thrive in an AI-driven world and capitalise on the opportunities it presents.

Here are some skills children will need to learn more about Artificial Intelligence.

1) Get Ready for the Future: Learning about artificial intelligence will help you prepare for the exciting future. The world around us is already constantly changing due to artificial Intelligence. Understanding how artificial intelligence works will prepare you to use and create amazing technologies to make our lives easier and more enjoyable!
