NEET & JEE Main will now be held twice in an academic year

India’s competitive exams National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main and several others will now be conducted electronically, i.e. through a computer-based system (CBS), and will be held twice a year by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

During the launch of NTA, Prakash Javadekar,

syllabus for NEET

HRD Minister of India, said, “All the examinations which were previously conducted by CBSE will now be conducted by NTA. The examinations will be computer-based examinations which will be much more secure and will align to international norms as there will be no paper leakage.”

As per the research by TopperLearning.com, about 11.8 lakh students appeared for JEE and NEET this year, and the number of students appearing for these exams is expected to rise by 13% next year. Javadekar added, “All the examinations will be conducted twice a year from 2019, which will give students more opportunity to prepare for the examination in case if they are unprepared in their first attempt.”

This move was suggested by Upendra Kushwaha (Ex-HRD Minister) last year in the Lok Sabha. The step is finally approved. NTA is a concept initiated by the Narendra Modi government which will act as a centralised autonomous body to conduct, analyze and execute the competitive exams in our country. However, there are no updates about a change in the syllabus for NEET and JEE Main 2019.
