ShareThe National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a national-level entrance test for medical students. This exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education every year in May for candidates who aspire to take admission in Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) medical courses. Students can get admission to any government and private medical/dental colleges in various cities across the country when they clear this test. From 2016, AIPMT has been replaced by NEET. This article presents complete information that aspirants should know to clear this competitive exam.
NEET Eligibility:
• The minimum age limit is 17 years as on or before 31st December of the year of admission. The maximum age limit is 25 years for the General category and 30 years for other backward categories (OBC) candidates.
• Candidates must have cleared the Class 12 exam by securing 50% marks in aggregate. Students appearing for the Class 12 exam (in 10+2) are also eligible to apply.
• The number of attempts which a candidate can avail for NEET is limited to 3.
Which documents are required for NEET?
• A candidate must be an Indian citizen. Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) are also eligible.
• Providing the Aadhaar Card number is mandatory for students applying for NEET. Candidates must submit the Aadhaar Card number or enrollment number while filling the application form.
• For students of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Meghalaya, the Aadhaar Card is not required to apply for NEET. They can fill in the application form with the ration card number, bank account number, passport number or number of any other identity card issued by the Government of India.

NEET Exam Pattern:
Knowing the NEET paper pattern helps NEET aspirants in preparation. Candidates are given 3 hours to complete the paper. The paper consists of 180 multiple choice questions with a single correct answer. The exam pattern can be understood with the points below:
• The question paper consists of 180 multiple choice questions with a single correct answer.
• The question paper is in 10 languages.
• The exam duration is 3 hours.
• 4 marks are awarded for each correct response.
• There is negative marking for incorrect answers. One mark is taken away for each wrong answer.
• Questions are asked from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology and Botany) subjects.
• The exam is conducted offline (pen and paper) mode.

Don’ts for NEET:
Yes, there are some important points that you need to keep in mind while preparing for NEET. You must consider these points before entering the examination hall.
• No water bottles, cold drinks, tea, coffee or snacks.
• No stationery items such as a pen, scale, writing pad, pen drive, eraser, calculator and pencil box.
• No Smartphone, earphones, health bands and hair beads.
• No ornaments such as rings, earrings, nose-pin, chain/necklace, pendant, badge and brooch.
• You can only wear clothes with half-sleeves, no big buttons on them, brooch/badge, flower with salwar/trousers.
• You also cannot wear shoes but slippers or sandals. Girls you may wear slippers and sandals with low heels.
NEET is held every year in May. The application form for the 2018 exam will be available from the first week of December 2017 on the official website. The entrance exam is to be held in the first week of May 2018. The result is expected to be announced in the first week of June 2018. Candidates can check their results by entering their roll number and required details on the website.
