JEE Main 2019 Eligibility, Attempts, Qualification & Age Eligibility Criteria

JEE Main is a National Level Entrance Exam for budding engineers. Till 2018 JEE Main has been conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). As announced by HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, JEE Main 2019 will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). The exams will be conducted in online mode twice a year from 2019 onwards. JEE Main exams are highly competitive; lakhs of students appear for the exam every year. They fill the application forms with the hope of joining reputed institutions like IIITs, NITs and CFTIs. But very few students manage to clear exams, and of course then are those who end up becoming ALL India Rank holders. Some would call that merit. But, merit alone will be of little use if you don’t start early and work hard.

And just when and how should you begin preparations for JEE Main 2019? How about right here, right now. Let’s start by understanding the eligibility, no. of attempts and the qualification required to appear for JEE Main 2019. if you are planning to attempt JEE 2019 you must read the eligibility criteria for JEE Mains 2019

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2019 (Age Restriction)

Students whose date of birth falls on or after 1st October, 1994 (for general and OBC candidate) are eligible to apply for JEE Main 2019. Students belonging to SC, ST and PwD are allowed a 5 year relaxation in upper age limit. This is to say that students who are born on or after 1st October 1989 will can also appear for JEE Main 2019, if they have reservation benefit. To see that the age criteria is met with, the council will only and only consider the date of birth provided in the Secondary Education Board certificate.

Eligibility Criteria JEE Mains 2019 for Person with Disabilities:

Students who fall under this category are required to fill in the type and percentages of disability correctly in the JEE Main 2019 Application Form. Those students who suffer from visual impairment with disability of 40% or above can choose to opt form a Scribe/Reader. Students who fall under this category will have to submit a request to the centre superintendent for the same at least two days before the examination. The student will be allowed to meet the scribe a day prior to the exam to verify suitability. But under no circumstances will a student be allowed to bring their own scribe. Also, such students will be given one hour compensatory exam time whether or not the student is avails a scribe.

Eligibility Criteria JEE Mains 2019 (Qualification Required) :

To be qualified to apply for JEE Main 2019, student must come under one of the following category:

  • Passed Class 12 Board examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in 2017 or 2018
  • Appearing for Class 12 Board examination or any equivalent qualifying examination in the year 2019

Please note: Students who have passed Class 12 Board examination/qualifying examination in 2016 or before will not be qualified to apply for JEE Main 2018.  The same holds true for students who will appear for Class 12 Board exam/qualifying exam in 2020 and beyond.  

Also, students who have appeared in Class 12 Board examination/qualifying examination in the year 2016 and did not pass in 2016, but passed in 2017 will also be ineligible for JEE Main 2019 entrance exam.

Eligibility Criteria JEE Mains 2019 (Subject Combination):

In order to qualify for JEE Main 2019, students must study at least five subjects in class 12th standard/qualifying examination. The 5 subject combination required for B. Tech/B.E courses as follows:

  • Language
  • Physics
  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Technical Vocational Subject (Any one of them)
  • Any other subject

Please note: Students who have taken only four subjects in +2 Boards will not be allowed to write JEE Main 2019 examination.  

Eligibility Criteria JEE Mains 2019 (Number of attempts) :

The number of attempts which a student can avail at JEE Main is restricted to three. If the student does not clear JEE Main in 3 attempts, he or she cannot register for the 4th time. Even if such a registration happens, such students will not be given their JEE Main 2019 Admit Card.
