ICSE Class 10 Chemistry 2019 Analysis

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) conducted the ICSE Class 10 Chemistry board paper today, 22nd March 2019. The paper was based entirely on the syllabus prescribed by CISCE and was yet another scoring question paper with all the expected questions well-practised through the various pre-boards.

Question Paper Structure

The paper was of 80 marks and divided into two sections – Section I and Section II. Each section was of 40 marks, and the duration of the paper was 2 hours.

Section I was compulsory. It had a total of 4 questions mostly of the ‘short answer type’. In Section II, there were 6 questions, out of which students had to attempt 4 questions.

Here is the detailed analysis of the ICSE 10 Chemistry paper.

If we compare the 2019 trend with that of 2018, we see a similar weightage of marks for some chapters.  ‘Organic Chemistry’, one of the most important chapters, had the maximum weightage this year also, followed by the chapters 'Metallurgy', 'Mole Concept' and 'Ammonia and Nitric Acid'. We found that there was a corresponding decrease in the weightage of marks for the chapter ‘Hydrogen Chloride' as compared to last year.

Question Types and Difficulty Level

The ICSE Class 10 Chemistry question paper comprised short answer questions which students could easily answer if they had a clear understanding of concepts. There were a few numericals from the chapter ‘Mole Concept’ which were quite easy and concept-based.

Besides a thorough understanding of concepts from the ICSE Chemistry syllabus, students who had gone through the Sample Papers, Past Year Papers and Most Important Questions provided by TopperLearning would feel rewarded as almost all questions were covered in these resources and thus answering them would have been an easy feat.

Wishing ICSE students all the very best for their upcoming exams. Stay tuned with www.topperlearning.com for more paper reviews and exam updates.
