HC Verma Vs. DC Pandey: Which books are best to prepare for JEE?
Should you go for HC Verma books or DC Pandey books to prepare for JEE?
When it comes to preparing for IIT JEE, there are many books available in the market. To tell you the truth, no book is perfect in itself and no one book is better than the other. If you are reading this blog post, you probably came here with a question: Should you go for HC Verma books or DC Pandey books to prepare for JEE?
And, we telling you that such a comparison does not exist isn’t probably the answer that you are looking for.
So, between HC Verma and DC Pandey, which author's books should you go for? And, most importantly, are these your only options?
Let’s look at the pros and cons.
HC Verma Books: Pros and Cons
The Pros: HC Verma Physics textbooks are ideal for the learning phase due to the simple use of language and detailed explanations supported by relevant illustrations. Since JEE predominantly tests the conceptual understanding of students, those referring to HC Verma books will benefit immensely. Also, HC Verma Physics books come with solutions. The HC Verma Solutions Part 1 is the best book for Work and Energy, Rotational Mechanics and Newton’s Laws of Motion. HC Verma Solutions Part 2 is the best book for topics like Thermodynamics, Magnetic Properties of Matter and Kinetic Theory of Gases.
The Cons: HC Verma books do not have enough numerical problems from the JEE point of view. They are good to build a strong foundation and to gain conceptual clarity, but they do not give JEE aspirants the kind of rigorous practice they require to crack the exam. Also, these book have been written for general science students and not for students preparing for JEE who need to master concepts through application.
During the practice and revision phase of your JEE preparation, you may find that DC Pandey books are more reliable.
DC Pandey Books: Pros and Cons
The Pros: If you are an aspiring IITian, you are the right target audience for these books. The Physics textbook by DC Pandey is written specifically with the JEE aspirant in mind. So, this book attempts to explain concepts in a way that is more practical for students appearing for competitive exams like JEE Main and Advanced. Also, this textbook by DC Pandey has a plethora of questions which meet JEE standards and enable students to get enough practice so as to improve speed and accuracy.
The Cons: This book does not explain concepts as lucidly as the NCERT textbooks or books by HC Verma. So, this is not a book with which you begin your IIT JEE preparation. Doing such a thing may leave you utterly confused. It may also prevent you from deeply understanding the enigmatic concepts of Physics.
So, now that you know the best and the worst about both books, you can take a call based on your unique needs and requirements.
