Government Approves Single Entrance Exam for Engineering and Architecture at UG Level
The HRD Ministry has approved AICTE’s proposal to hold a single entrance exam for engineering colleges from 2018.
The Union HRD Ministry has given a go ahead for a single entrance exam for admissions to undergraduate engineering and architecture courses from 2018. The test will be on the lines of NEET and will be conducted multiple times in a year.
Students should, however, note that they will still have to clear the JEE-Advanced after taking the engineering entrance exam if they seek admission to the IITs. The proposal was put forward by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) with a view of bringing uniformity in academic standards and reduce the influence of donations.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has announced quite a few initiatives for the education sector in the 2017-18 budget. This includes setting up of a National Testing Service (NTS) to conduct all entrance examinations for higher education institutions, restructuring the University Grants Commission (UGC), and launching online courses for school and college students.
