From Now On, Core Question Papers for Classes IX and XI to Be Set By CISCE

The Council For The Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has decided to set question papers for classes 9 and 11. The core subjects to be covered by CISCE for Class 9 will include: English Language, English Literature, History and Civics, Geography, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Commercial Studies.

For Class 11, CISCE will cover 16 core subjects, namely: English Language, English Literature, History and Civics, Geography, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Accounts, Commerce, Business Studies, Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

The CISCE will prepare two sets of question papers for each of these levels, one for the plain schools which conduct exams in February-March. The other set will be for the hill schools where exams are held in November-December. All schools affiliated to CISCE will have to refer to these question papers internally, in the Annual Examinations.

Mass Reaction to the Declaration:  This declaration by CISCE has been broadly accepted. Principles of reputed schools across the country have expressed their support, and have warmly welcomed the declaration by CISCE. They are of the opinion, this move by the council will ensure uniformity of standard across schools in the pre-board years, and also students will get the scope to get familiar with board question paper patterns well in advance.

Does it mean more hard work for students? The news of CISCE setting question papers for Classes 9 & 10 may have taken the students by surprise. But for those students, who were already willing to work hard keeping the board exams in mind, will benefit from such a move by the Council. Now that students cannot take Class 9 and 11 exams lightly, it will improve their overall preparation for Board exams along with their chances of clearing.

The final analysis:   This move by the Council will ensure that balanced portion of the syllabus is covered in each of the two year course so that students are not over-burdened. Now that the Council itself will set the question papers, due weightage will be assigned to all chapters and units in the syllabus. This will reduce cramming and ensure standardized education and learning across all schools affiliated to the Council.
