It’s that time of the year when you are stepping into the next phase of your life. While this seems exciting, what awaits you is a major decision that has to be made. For a student, Class 12 is considered the stepping stone to higher education and a bright future. There are numerous options for students after Class 12 in Science, Arts and Commerce. However, selecting the right course or degree is not an easy task.
What to do after Class 12?
While most students are well informed and have an idea of what they want to pursue, some may still be in the deciding and confused stage.

Courses after Class 12 in Science
Students who have studied Science (PCM/PCB/PCMB) in Class 11 and 12 can opt for courses in the fields of Engineering, Medicine or Pure Sciences.
Popular courses are BE/BTech, BArch, BFTech, MBBS, BDS, BVSc and BSc. In terms of eligibility, PCM is compulsory for engineering courses and PCB is compulsory for medical courses (maths is not a compulsory subject).
Some of the popular entrance exams in the science stream are JEE, BITSAT, NEET, AIIMS and VITEEE. Each of these entrance exams have their respective eligibility criteria.
Courses after Class 12 in Commerce
Students who have a keen interest in Commerce may opt for either a degree course or a higher certification.
Some popular degree courses available to students are BCom, BCom (Hons), BBA and BAF. Students can also opt for certifications like CA, CS, CFA and CMA which are professional courses governed by their respective institutes.
Courses after Class 12 from any stream (Arts, Commerce or Science)
Many courses can also be taken up by students who have completed their 10+2 from any of the three streams, and therefore, there is no subject-specific eligibility for these courses.
Some of the popular fields which students can opt for are Law, Hotel Management, Liberal Studies and Business Management, and the degrees students receive include LLB, BMM, BBS, BCom and BA.
You may also choose to join the National Defence Academy (NDA), which is a joint services academy Indian Armed Forces, namely the Army, Navy and Air Force.Cadets who join NDA are trained for three years, culminating in graduation with BA/BSc or BCS (Computer Science).
Students who wish to serve the country in another way may choose to join the government sector. Government exams enable candidates to join government undertakings related to Defence, Railways, Banking and Insurance. Some of the government exams are SBI PO, SBISO, IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk.
