David Hilbert was considered one of the most influential mathematicians of the 19th and 20th centuries. He was the first one to distinguish between Mathematics and Metamathematics.

David also discovered the invariant theory. He did some groundbreaking work in various mathematical areas ranging from number systems, invariants and functional analysis to geometry and mathematical physics.

David received the prestigious Bolyai Prize for his renowned work in Mathematics and was believed to be the greatest mathematician after Poincare.

In 1920, David launched a program which came to be known as the ‘Hilbert Program’. It was based on principles which made Mathematics a more logic-based subject rather than a task determined by randomly proposed theories.

David put forward the most sought after list of 23 unsolved problems at the International Congress of Mathematicians in Paris in 1900. These problems were considered the most successful compilation of open problems ever to be published by an individual.
