Chess Day to be observed on Nov 30
Chess Day will be celebrated in all high schools in the state on November 30 as part of a government initiative to encourage this brain-sharpening game among students.
Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, the minister for primary and secondary education, announced this to reporter gathered at his office on Thursday.
“There are about 15,000 government and aided high schools in the state. Students will get to know about the mind game on that day,” he said.
Students will be taught about the history of the game and its significance in sharpening their minds, he said.
“Students will get to play the game continuously at school and at home further,” he said.
On November 7, the department is observing Reading Day wherein all the students will be reading books available in the school library between 11 am to 12 noon. The aim of this exercise is to make use of the books which are gathering dust in the library shelves and to inculcate in them a reading habit, he said.
The process of distribution of uniforms to school students will be centralised, he said.
According to the central guidelines under the Right to Education Act and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, distribution of second set of uniforms will be handed over to the school development management committees.
Earlier, Kageri had introduced story-telling classes in schools.
