CBSE Students of Class XI and XII will be required to answer few value-based questions in their final examination from this academic session (2012-13)!

From this academic year onwards, CBSE Exams will include questions which will test students if they are fit to live in the society or not!

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), whose educational process have always included co-scholastic areas of life-skills, sports and games, attitude and values, as well as co-curricular activities, is aiming to strengthen its education system in the area of value education. Therefore, the board will be introducing value-based questions in final examination papers in all major subjects for classesXI and XII from the academic session 2012-13.

According to sources, the questions will be for 5 marks in a paper of 100 marks and 3-4 marks in a question paper of 70-90 marks. This will be effective from the forthcoming final examinations - classes XI and XII - in 2013. Further, the board exam in 2013 (class XII) will also have such questions. All schools affiliated to CBSE have been requested to make it a part of their assessment in class XI.

A potential question in economics would be framed like this:-

A father in his will gives 40% each to his son and daughter and 20% to his servant who has been with him for long. Why has he done it and what is the value addition?

Answer: Gender equality and charity.

The board has also decided to assess students for 5% weightage in major subjects (English, Hindi, mathematics, biology, physics, chemistry, accountancy, history, geography, business studies, entrepreneurship and economics) in classes XI and XII through questions, which will be integrated with the content of the subject and analyzed on the basis of the values it reflects.
