CBSE Class 12 Chemistry Exam Review

Students would have just about left the exam hall after the CBSE Class 12 Chemistry paper today. At first sight, the Chemistry question paper seemed easy but slightly lengthy for the average student. However, for students who studied well, the paper was scoring. With almost all questions straight out of the NCERT textbook, students surely must have been relieved.

So, let’s go through this year's CBSE Class 12 Chemistry question paper.

Question Paper Pattern

The Chemistry paper consisted of four sections, namely A, B, C, and D, which contained 27 questions totalling up to 70 marks.

There was no overall choice. However, an internal choice was provided in two questions of one mark, two questions of two marks, four questions of three marks and all the three questions of five marks. The duration of the paper was 3 hours.

Let’s look at each section in some more detail.

Section A had 5 very short answer questions of one mark each. These questions were of remembering and understanding type.

Section B had 7 short answer questions of two marks each. Questions here were of the evaluation and application type.

Section C had 12 short answer questions of three marks each. This section consisted of numerical from Electrochemistry, Solutions and Solid State. This section was tricky.

Section D had 3 questions, each carrying five marks, and the questions were either conceptual or numerical problem solving or based on organic reactions.

Distribution of Marks

Although the CBSE Class 12 Chemistry paper was much easier compared to last year, solving our sample papers would have surely given students an added advantage.

Also, numerical which fetch students marks and prove to be a life saver was directly from the NCERT textbook. So, in contrast to the Physics paper, the difficulty level of questions in the Chemistry paper can be considered easy.

It’s now time to focus on Biology. Team TopperLearning wishes you all the very best!
