Business Studies Board Paper Analysis 2019 CBSE Class 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Business Studies exam today, 14th March 2019. The duration of the paper was 3 hours. The question paper was for 80 marks, and unlike the previous year, there were internal options in the questions this year. The questions asked in the options belonged to the same chapter.

Difficulty Level of the Paper

The paper was of a moderate difficulty level. While 60% of the questions were case study-based questions, the remaining 40% of the questions were direct. The direct questions were quite easy to answer. On the other hand, the case study-based questions were a bit tricky and confusing.

Marks’ Distribution as per CBSE Blueprint

The table below explains the distribution of marks as per the CBSE blueprint for Business Studies. As per the CBSE syllabus, the paper was to be divided into two sections, namely Section A and Section B. Section A with eight chapters was to have a weightage of 50 marks. Section B with four chapters was to have questions worth 30 marks.

This analysis is based on the All India Business Studies Set 2 paper.

It is evident that CBSE has deviated a bit from the section-wise weightage. Section A which was to have a weightage of 50 marks as per the blueprint had questions worth 53 marks. On the other hand, Section B which was allotted a weightage of 30 marks had questions worth 27 marks. So, 3 marks from Section B was moved to Section A.

One can clearly see the drastic change in the weightage given to the chapter Financial Management. Questions worth 10 marks were asked from this chapter in the paper last year (i.e. in 2018), whereas the weightage was only 4 marks this year. While talking about the rest of the chapters (referring to the table above), we see slight changes in the weightage given to a few chapters this year as compared to last year. Staffing, Directing and Marketing Management were allotted a maximum weightage in the question paper this year.

Conclusion

Overall, the paper was moderate yet lengthy with the inclusion of few tricky case studies. Like any other theory paper, today’s paper tested the time management skills of students. We hope that you did well in the exam.

All the very best from Team TopperLearning for your upcoming CBSE Class 12 examinations!
