Beat the Heat with a Cool Solar Jacket

A cool solar jacket has been designed by electrical engineer Dr S. P. Gon Chaudhuri along with scientists from the S. N. Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata. The functionality of the jacket was demonstrated to the West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) authorities in February 2014, and the makers have already received a good response.

Gon Chaudhuri elaborated, "We are getting a good response already. The New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has taken six such jackets, and we are in the process of making another 10 jackets for them."

The jacket has a portable electric fan integrated with four solar cells and rechargeable batteries. When the solar cells are activated, the batteries get charged and the fan starts functioning. This keeps the jacket cool.

The cool solar jacket will be sold in the range of Rs 1,400 -1,600. The benefit of wearing this cool jacket is the user experience of a temperature which is 5-6 degrees lower!
