A Perfect Guide to Improve Your English Grammar for CBSE Class 10

It is easy to master English grammar. Or, is it?

Learning English grammar is no rocket science. But, to master it one needs to practice incessantly.

To excel in Class 10 CBSE English Grammar, you need to work on your basics. In CBSE, the grammar section is clubbed with writing skills, and the duo is awarded 30 marks.

However, the perks of mastering English grammar goes far beyond these 30 marks. What we mean is, without mastering grammar you cannot string words together to frame correct sentences. Without correct sentences, there can be no correct answer. Simply knowing the answer to a question (in any subject) is not enough, you have to articulate it correctly so that the teachers also know that you know.

So, if you have to score more in CBSE Board exams, you must know grammar.

5 Ways to Learn English Grammar Correctly & Effectively

  1. Brush up your Parts of Speech –Did you know that every word you use in a sentence can be categorized under one of the eight word groups (popularly known as Parts of Speech). This is the inception point for English grammar.
  2. Use the left side of your brain – Grammar is the syntax. It is the law that governs and ensures proper usage of words and phrases. To learn English grammar, use your logical and analytical skills. Mugging up a bunch of rules will only get you confused.
  3. Pay attention in Class – This is directly related to the second point. Since grammar is logic, and you can’t mug it up, you better pay attention in class and understand the reasoning behind each correct answer. Only knowing the correct answer will not help.
  4. Go back to the basics – In addition to solving sample papers or past year papers, go through the basics of each topic. Especially, the three tenses – Present, Past and Future. Not knowing the tenses can leave you tensed before the CBSE Class 10 English Exam.
  5. Practice Daily – To keep it simple, grammar is just like Maths. The more you practice, the more you excel at it.
