You are given two soil samples of which one is clay and another is sand. How can you determine which is clay and which is sand with the help of water?

Expert Answer
Take two strainers, put both the samples in each strainer and place the strainers over beakers of equal capacity. Then pour 500 ml water in each strainer containing the soil sample. The sample through which more water passes out will be sand and the sample through which less water will pass will be clay.
