The characteristics of a floating body :


(i) Weight of the body is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by immersed part of the body.
(ii) Weight of the body acts vertically downwards through centre of gravity (G) whereas up thrust acts vertically upwards through centre of buoyancy (B).
(iii) When the body is floating, it is weightless and its apparent density and apparent weight is zero.
