Five factors that hinder the success of Indian democracy are;
Illiteracy: Low literacy level of people hinder the success of democracy. Literate people are aware of their rights and duties, various social economic issues and other problems in the country.
Communalism: Communalism is an ideology of political allegiance to a religious community. It is opposed to secularism. Voting on religious lines indeed presents a great challenge to the Indian democracy.
Regionalism: Existence of regional inequalities and too much obsession with the region has led to people demanding new states and more autonomy.
Corruption: Corruption in electoral process and bribing of voters have become a common practice now. This has been posing continuous challenges to the Indian democracy.
Criminalisation of politics: Criminals are being given party tickets to fight elections. Such people try to win elections by showing muscle and money power. This is a major reason that hinder the success of the Indian democracy.
