Thyroid gland is situated in the neck region, around the larynx and trachea. It shows 2 lobes joined by an isthmus.
The main hormones produced by this glands are thyroxine (T4), triiodothyronine (T3), and calcitonin. Production of T4 and T3 are regulated by TSH. T3 and T4 regulate the rate of metabolism and affect the growth and function of many other systems in the body.
Calcitonin regulates blood calcium levels.
Hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism are the most common problems of the thyroid gland, found in many individuals.
