CBSE Class 10 Answered
Will current flow more easily through a thick wire or a thin wire of the same material when connected to the same source? Give reasons. Also, give an expression for the resistance of a metallic wire in terms of the resistivity.

Expert Answer
The current will flow more easily when thicker wire is used. As resistance offered by the thick wire is less than that offered by the thin wire because R (resistance) = p (rho). l (length) / A (area of cross-section or thickness of wire).
And rho is the resistivity of the wire.
So as you can see if area of cross-section ( or thickness) of wire increases, resistance decreases and more current flows through it.
