Acceleration is rate of change of velocity.

rightwards double arrow a equals space v over t
While velocity is rate of change of displacement.

rightwards double arrow v equals s over t
Thus, acceleration can be written as

rightwards double arrow a equals v over t equals fraction numerator begin display style bevelled s over t end style over denominator t end fraction equals s over t squared
Thus, unit of acceleration is m/s2 .
