Noble gases such as Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, Rn are placed in separate group in the periodic table because:

1. They have completely filled octet hence have least tendency to react with other elements. They are extremely non-reactive.

2. They can occur in nature by themselves and don't need another element to stabilize them.
