Why springs are made of steel and not copper?
Asked by Anagha P | 16th Nov, 2010, 12:00: AM
Expert Answer:
Dear student
The Young's modulus of steel is greater than copper, therefore more restoring force is developed in steel than copper when deformed by strain. Due to this steel is preferred over copper in manufacturing the springs.
We hope this clarifies your doubt.
