Expert Answer
The surface area of a cell should be larger than its volume because it facilitates:
(a) Greater diffusion of nutrients into the cell
(b) Diffusion of metabolic wastes from the interior to the outside of the cell
(c) Diffusion of respiratory gases, in and out of the cell. E.g. Oxygen enters inside the cell and carbon dioxide comes out of the cell.
