why scarcity of water is there in our country inspite of nature's monsoon bounty?

Expert Answer:

Despite nature's monsoon bounty, failure to sustain water availability underground has resulted largely from the loss of vegetation cover, diversion for high waterdemanding crops, and pollution from industrial effluents and urban wastes. There is a lack of proper planning and infrastructure to conserve water. Large scale irrigation methods and dams led to mismanagement of water and benefits cornered by a few people. Watershed management options should be considered in all areas to store water so as to eliminate the scarcity of water.
