why only radioactive elements are used in genrating nuclear energy?

Since radioactive elements are unstable nuclei and disintegrate into stable nuclei. And they release energy which can be used for example electricity generation. So being radioactive we are exploit the unstability and released energy, which we can't in the case of stable nuclei due to energy consideration.
