Why is the unit of work and the unit of energy the same(both r Joules)?

Because energy is defined via work, the SI unit for energy is the same as the unit of work – the joule (J),One joule is the work done, or energy expended, by a force of one newton moving an object one metre along the direction of the force.(work is a form of energy)
