Why is the nucleus of cuboidal epithelium present in the center?
Asked by shambhavi.vatts | 6th Jul, 2010, 07:23: PM
The position of the nucleus depends on the shape of the cell. In most cases, the nucleus is at the centre of the cell. The nucleus is anchored in the centre by the cytoskeletal fibers in the cell. One component, the intermediate filaments forms a network that surrounds the nucleus and holds it in the center.
The nucleus, being the control centre can send commands quickly to anywhere in the cell if it is in the centre. This enables the cell to carry out its functions quickly and efficiently.
