why is the area enclosed under vt graph not called distance but displacement ?

Pls note :-
Velocity x time = Displacement ( not distance, as velocity is a vector quantity ).
speed x time = distance
The area enclosed between the velocity-time sketch and x-axis ( i.e. time axis) gives displacement of the body.
